Car dealership phone charging: lounge, desk and test drive
A customer waits two hours, walks the lot and drives a route. Three rooms, three products, one order to write.
A dealership asks a phone to do three things in one visit: survive a two hour service appointment, stay charged while the customer walks the lot, and hold a route on a test drive. Those are three products in three rooms, and the specification work is deciding which one the group is buying. A courtesy at the desk, a fixture in the lounge and a mount in every demo car have different owners and order sizes.
Three places a customer waits
The service lounge has the longest dwell and the least supervision. A customer sits two hours with a phone and nothing to do with it, and a dead battery turns a wait into a complaint. A stand at a reading angle earns its floor space.
The write-up desk is short and standing, so the unit has to work one handed and stay where it was left. The showroom table where finance runs is seated again, but a cable across that table is not acceptable. Choose the room with the longest wait, not the most traffic.
The test drive is a different product
A demo car needs a mount rather than a pad. It holds the phone in the driver's line of sight for the route, charges while the car moves, and comes out without leaving a mark on a car that will be sold in a few months.
Vent and dashboard forms fail differently. A vent blade keeps the phone in cool air, but blade sizes differ by model and a heavy phone can droop a soft blade. A dashboard mount sits in the sun. Neither is universal, so the demo car list comes first.
Custody, tethering and loss
A loose pad leaves with the customer, a loose cable leaves with the customer, and a phone left charging behind a chair is a conversation no store manager wants. Fixed units and tethered cables cost more and lose less.
For a group the question repeats at every site: who signs for a unit, who replaces it, how it is tagged. A spare per site and a model that stays in the range are worth more than a lower first price.
Finish, branding and the group order
A group buys one build for several buildings designed by other people. The housing has to sit in a lounge without arguing with the furniture, the cable has to match the finish, and the supplier mark has to be absent unless the group asks for its own.
Branding is a purchasing decision. Private label on the base, a colour and a packaging line are quoted per site. The housing stays the same across the group, because a second finish is a second minimum order.
One building, four charging jobs
Set the order by where the customer sits still, not by footfall.
| Where | Build | What it fixes | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Service lounge | 3 in 1 or duo stand | Phone, watch, earbuds, one cord | Cable exit, stand angle |
| Write-up desk | 15W pad or 25W stand | A charged phone while signing | One hand use, tether |
| Showroom table | Desk pad in the table | No cable on the furniture | Hole cut, power below |
| Demo car | Vent or dashboard mount | Charging on the test route | Blade fit, heat, residue |
Most groups land on two builds and one mount: the lounge and the desk want different things from a stand.
Five things to confirm before the order
A group order fails on details never written down at store level.
- Which place is fitted first across the group, because they are separate orders.
- The phone mix of the customer base, since the ring decides the mount.
- The demo car list with the vent blade size for each model.
- Who owns the units at store level: marketing, fixed operations or IT.
- The spare per site and the framework length, so one model covers it.
- Site brief
- Car dealers
- Ask for
- Sheet, mount fitment list, certificate file
- Decided per
- Site, then repeated across the group
Three answers before the email
Does one mount fit every demo car?
No. A vent mount depends on the blade, and blades differ by model and trim. A dashboard mount covers more cars but needs a flat surface.
Can a customer take the charger out to the lot?
A loose pad or a power bank can, and a fixed pad cannot. Decide whether the unit is furniture or a courtesy: the loss rates differ.
What about a customer with an Android phone?
A magnetic mount holds a phone with a magnet ring or a magnetic case. Without one, a metal plate in the case is the usual answer, and it changes the case the customer keeps.
Send the demo list and the site count.
Build, mount fitment and the certificate list come back in one reply, per site.
